Where Did the Patriots Quarterback Come From?

When it comes to American football, the quarterback position is one of the most important on the field. And for the New England Patriots, the quarterback position has been a cornerstone of the team’s success. From Tom Brady to current quarterback Cam Newton, the Patriots have had some of the best quarterbacks in the game. But where did they come from?

Tom Brady

It’s hard to talk about Patriots quarterbacks without starting with Tom Brady. Known as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Brady was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

But Brady wasn’t always considered a top prospect. In fact, he wasn’t even a starter in college until his senior year at the University of Michigan. Despite this, the Patriots saw potential in Brady and took a chance on him in the draft. The rest, as they say, is history.

With the Patriots, Brady won six Super Bowl titles and countless other accolades. His time with the team came to an end in 2020 when he left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cam Newton

After Brady’s departure, the Patriots found themselves in need of a new quarterback. In came Cam Newton, a former MVP who had previously played for the Carolina Panthers.

Newton was drafted first overall by the Panthers in 2011 and quickly made a name for himself in the league. He led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015 and was named the league MVP that same year.

However, injuries and a down year in 2019 led to Newton being released by the Panthers. The Patriots saw an opportunity to add a talented quarterback to their team and signed Newton to a one-year deal for the 2020 season.

Other Patriots Quarterbacks

While Brady and Newton are undoubtedly the two biggest names among Patriots quarterbacks, they’re far from the only talented players to have held the position for the team.

Other notable Patriots quarterbacks include Drew Bledsoe, who helped the team reach the Super Bowl in the 1996 season, and Jimmy Garoppolo, who served as Brady’s backup and helped lead the team to a win in the 2016 season while Brady was serving a suspension.

Throughout the team’s history, the Patriots have shown a knack for finding talented quarterbacks and developing them into top-tier players. With Cam Newton at the helm for the 2020 season and beyond, it will be interesting to see if this trend continues.
